The
four-day India Show 2008 was successfully organised by Oman
International Trade & Exhibition Company LLC, Muscat in
collaboration with the Indian Embassy at the Oman International
Exhibition Center, Al Seeb from 13-16 February 2008. Forty
participants from twenty five Indian companies showcasing products
ranging from foodstuff to utensils, textiles, handicrafts, leather
upholstered furniture, plants and machinery, banking and tourism
participated in the Show under the banner of the Federation of
Indian Export Organizations (FIEO), New Delhi. The multi-product
exhibition attracted large number of visitors from Muscat and
outside. The companies that came from India are Amrapali Group,
Falcon Realty Services Pvt. Ltd, Balence Designs Inc, Centurion Bank
of Punjab, Oriental Bank of Commerce, JIICO Exports Pvt. Ltd, Malvia
Exports, Monaco Import Export, Rabindra Enterprises, Ritu Arts, S S
Foundry Chemical Industries Pvt. Ltd, Shri Navkar Metals Limited,
Vikram Impex, Vishal Holo Solutions, Virgin Exports, Nisarga
Bio-tech Pvt. Ltd. and Coconut Development Board. Besides, a number
of Indian companies already present in Oman, such as New India
Assurance Company, State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda etc. and
India Tourism Dubai Office took part in the show. Most of the
exhibitors in the commodities section sold out their goods. But more
importantly, many of them were able to conclude tie-ups with
companies in Oman for long-term supply of goods. Deals worth an
estimated US$ 1 million were sealed during the India Show. Companies
from the services sector also held meetings with many Omani players
from their fields. The Embassy hosted two receptions, one at Golden
Tulip Hotel, Al Seeb on 13th February 2008 and another at
the Embassy on 16th February 2008 which were attended by
prominent officials from the Omani Government and business
establishments apart from the Indian and other business communities
in Oman. Both the events were well attended and provided invaluable
opportunities for business networking and sharing of information
among the Indian companies participating in the India Show and their
Omani counterparts. The event on 16th February also
coincided with the launch of India Business Forum (IBF), an
initiative of the Embassy to bring together Indians and Persons of
Indian Origin occupying prominent positions in business
establishments in Oman on an informal platform to share ideas and
information on trade and investment opportunities between India and
Oman. Following the inaugural address by Ambassador of India, His
Excellency Anil Wadhwa, three presentations were made by Mr. S.
Sreedharan from Ernst & Young, Oman on “Why India is a compelling
investment destination”, Mr. Pankaj Khimji, Co-Chairman of
India-Oman Joint Business Council on “Opportunities for India in
Omani priority sectors” and Mr. Anand Seth, Joint Deputy Director
General of FIEO on “Investment opportunities in key infrastructure
sectors in India.”
